What is the Piedmont Triad?

The Piedmont Triad is a large region of northern-central North Carolina and is named after the "Triad" of major cities: Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point. (The Triad is not to be confused with the Research Triangle, made up of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.) It is comprised of 12 counties, spans more than 5,000 square miles, and has a population of about 1.7 million people.

Real Estate in the Triad

The Piedmont Triad covers a large geographical area and has a relatively low cost of living compared to many parts of the nation. Because of these two things, you can find an extensive variety of homes and properties here. You can find single family, two-story, new construction type neighborhoods in the $200,000 to $400,000 range. You can find enormous million-dollar luxurious mansions on expansive lots with superb landscaping in serene neighborhoods. You can find condos and townhomes, historic farmhouses or mid-century ranch style homes already renovated or ready for your personal touch, and smaller lots or large parcels of land to build your dream home on. With that said, prices and real estate trends vary by city and local areas, so make sure to contact us to be your local REALTOR® experts.

Schools in the Triad

The Piedmont Triad area is served by its local county K-12 school systems, with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and Guilford County Schools servicing the main urban/suburban part of the Triad.

Some of the most prestigious private K-12 schools are in the Triad area as well including Summit School and Calvary Day School in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, Greensboro Day School and Greensboro Montessori School in Greensboro, and Wesleyan Christian Academy and High Point Christian Academy in High Point.

Homeschooling is also very popular in the Triad area. There are many homeschool co-ops and groups to help you if want to take responsibility for your own child's education.

Civil Rights History in the Triad

The Piedmont Triad has a prominent place in the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Triad was at the forefront of the desegregation movement. Students of integrated schools in Greensboro led sit-ins at segregated schools, and that sparked and initiated the Civil Rights Movement.
